Seven Tips for freshman success

Here are seven tips to help students survive their freshman year in college:

  1. Don't skip classes. Be there on time. Once your grade point average goes down, it could be harder to recover.

  2. Study. Make your classes a priority. Find your own little corner to hit the books. If your residence hall is too noisy, find a spot in the library.

  3. Get involved in campus activities. Not only will it help you make new friends, it will make you feel like you are really a part of campus and IUPUI.

  4. Make use of available resources. There are lots of places you can get help- Student Health Services, Student Life Departments, etc.

  5. Don't be afraid to ask questions. That's why your teachers, advisers, Student Life staff, and friends are there.

  6. Find a mentor. It is worthwhile to find a friend or faculty/staff member to help you navigate your first year.

  7. Find a good balance. Create a happy medium for your study time and social activities. If you are going to overdo it one way, lean closer to your studies.
